Mentoring

Homeschool Mentor Mom

Local experienced homeschool mom Wendy Hania has a ministry to encourage new or struggling homeschoolers. Check out her website for more information.

Do want help finding JOY in the homeschool storm?
Parents are natural teachers. In fact, as parents we teach our children many things - how to eat, talk, walk, interact with others. At home we teaching our children something.  What are you teaching your kids? What has God called you to teach your children?

Our goal is to walk alongside families convicted to teach children at home with prayerful and practical encouragement in the good and bad times, in the successes and in the storms.

Currently seeking Christ-facing mentor moms and teaching resources with a Biblical world view to support families in need

Central Valley Homeschool Co-op
We began in September of 2019. We will meet on Fridays in the fall and spring at Greenacres Baptist Church in Spokane Valley. We are a non-denominational Christian co-op and teach all classes from a biblical worldview. You must have a child at least kindergarten age or older to join. We have a nursery and preschool program for younger siblings.

We welcome families with special needs children and desire for our community to be a safe place for them to be.  This is not solely a special needs co-op. All children are welcome. This is a parent-led co-op. Parents are required to stay with their children during the hours of co-op. If you feel you cannot commit to attending regularly in the fall and/or spring, we offer an option to join us for only our field trips and events.

Monday  Homeschool Network
Our mission is to provide Christ centered support, community, and guidance for homeschooling families who desire accountability and structure that regular class work provides. Students who intend to transition from homeschooling directly to college need experience in meeting class requirements in a timely and competent manner. These classes are not intended to replace homeschooling or to relieve the necessity of parental supervision. Rather, they seek to help provide instruction in areas in which the parent may not have expertise and to provide classroom experience for students who may be unaccustomed to the demands of formal education.  Those who participate in MHN have been blessed by the friendships, fellowship, and learning opportunities.

West Plains Families of Faith Homeschool Co-op
Welcome to the West Plains Families of Faith Homeschool Co-op! We're a multi-denominational, parent taught cooperative that meets weekly in Airway Heights. We have a fall and spring session for formal classes and looser optional activities for winter and summer. Class days are split into 3 class periods and parents are required to teach one class and help in another. There's a small co-op fee for each 8-9 week session in addition to any materials fees paid for individual classes. We have wait list preference for teens. What classes we offer all depends on what the parents want to teach and what the needs of the students are.

West Plains Homeschool Group Co-op
A small, fun, hands-on, educational gathering of homeschool families, co-op style!
Classes for all ages:
· Older kids (roughly grades 4+)
· Younger kids (roughly grades K-3)
· Littlest kids (roughly 0-4 years old)

West Plains Facebook Group Page
A group for West Plains Homeschoolers. We have FREE events, workshops, and field trips in the West Plains (Cheney, Medical Lake, Airway Heights) area. All events are listed under the 'Events' tab & require RSVPs. All ages & homeschooling families welcome! This is a great casual co-op & forum to gain support from other homeschoolers.

Home school Legal Defense Association

Home School Legal Defense Association is an organization founded by Michael Farris in 1983, who put together a team of Christian, Homeschooling dad, lawyers that act as legislative watch dogs on behalf of home schooling across the country. This may not sound like a big deal, but in fact they are on the front lines for many families that are legally harassed or challenged regarding home schooling. They are largely responsible for helping to get home schooling legal in all 50 states and they continue to defend and protect parental rights to home educate their children.

For $120 annually, you can join HSLDA, which assures you “free” legal counsel or representation if you are ever challenged regarding homeschooling. It’s kind of like Homeschool Insurance. They offer an affordable monthly pay plan, for only $10 a month. I have been home schooling for 17 years, and I wouldn’t home school without them.

Also…their website is full of resources, some even for non-members. And they offer e-lerts, sending important info out when needed. They offer newsletters and helps for all seasons of home schooling including the struggling or special needs learner, and a Homeschooling High School newsletter that is full of tips and advice and nuggets of wisdom, as well as transcript help, and oodles of other resources.

Read their ABOUT page here.
And read WHAT YOU RECEIVE here.
